Clinical Metabolomics has been called the “Stethoscope” of the 21st Century and is foundational module of the Essential HOMeHOPe Certification. In it, you will lean how to detect and correct exogenous and endogenous metabolites that make up our metabolome. The metabolome represents the collection of all metabolites in a biological cell, tissue, organ or organism that are required for maintenance, growth, and optimized function. These include the vitamins, minerals, cofactors, oxidants, antioxidants, amino acids, and metabolic products from cellular energy production and gut microbiota. The metabolites, being the end products of genetic expression, reflect what is happening at the cellular level, even before illness is detected.

The gut immune system refers to the specialized network of cells, tissues, and organs responsible for protecting and maintaining immune balance within the gastrointestinal tract. It plays a critical role in defending against pathogens, regulating immune responses to food antigens, and maintaining tolerance to the trillions of commensal microbes residing in the gut. In this HOMeHOPe module, students learn how to detect and correct gut markers related to maldigestion, dysbiosis, inflammation, metabolic imbalance, infection, and food sensitivities.

Genes are not our destiny. Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression and cellular phenotype that do not involve alterations in the underlying DNA sequence. It encompasses a complex interplay between genetic factors and environmental influences, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, non-coding RNA molecules, and chromatin remodeling. This module was created by renowned researcher and Stanford teacher, Lucia Aronica, Ph.D. and clinically rendered by Dr. Scot Sherr from the HOMeHOPe faculty. It dives deep into the clinical applications of these epigenetic modifications, discusses the potential and pitfalls of epigenetic aging clocks, discusses the profound effect exercise and diet have on epigenetics,and much more.

Bioenergetics is the study of the flow and transformation of energy within biological systems, particularly focusing on how living organisms acquire, store, and utilize energy to sustain vital processes. It encompasses the understanding of various energy-related pathways, such as cellular respiration as well as the interplay between ATP production, conversion, and utilization in different biological contexts. In this module, we focus on the requirements for energy production (light, water, magnetism, vitamins, minerals, nutrients), the impedances to energy production (toxins, heavy meals), mitochondrial dynamics, mitochondrial biogenesis, and more.

Evolutionary Medicine combines information from different disciplines such as evolutionary biology, anthropology, and zoology with human medicine in order to create new paradigms or understanding human health and disease. It recognizes that many aspects of our biology and physiology are shaped by natural selection and evolutionary processes. In HOMeHOPe, students will learn leverage proximate explanation (i.e how things work) and evolutionary explanations (i.e why certain functions exist) to address the question: What can we do about them clinically to help our clients?

The Exposome is the systemic, unbiased, -omic scale examination of non-genetic factors contributing to health and disease. It is also known as the “environmental genome” i.e. the cumulative lifetime exposure to three environments: General External (social capital, education, financial status, etc), Specific External (radiation, infectious agents, pollutants, dyes, chemicals, etc), and Internal (hormones, physical activity, gut microbiome, etc). In this module, students learn how to use advanced testing to detect and correct the environmental genome to optimize the health of their clients.

Chronobiology is the science investigating cyclic phenomena in living organisms. These cycles or biological rhythms influence many cellular processes. There are circadian, infraradian, ultraradian rythyms, and more. When there are imbalances in these rhythms, many aspects of health may be deleteriously affected. In HOMeHOPe, we detect biological rhythm imbalance using advanced testing that includes metabolomics, polysomnography, wearables, and other tech. Students then learn how to health optimize using immediately available lifestyle changes, dietary changes, and targeted supplementation.
